    Internship and Academic Exchange in Our Laboratory

    As part of her professional training to obtain a degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the Universidad de la República de Uruguay, Lucia Sadi carried out a two-month internship in our laboratory.

    Under the supervision of Prof. Gabriela Oksdath-Mansilla, Lucia worked on the application of continuous flow synthetic methodologies for the preparation of potential metallo-β-lactamase inhibitors.

    During her stay, she actively participated in synthesis, purification, and characterization tasks, integrating into the group’s scientific and training activities. This experience helped strengthen academic and scientific exchange between both institutions, fostering the training of young researchers in an interdisciplinary and collaborative regional environment. We thank Lucia for her commitment and enthusiasm, and we wish her every success in completing her studies and in her future professional endeavors.

    LUMEN-Lab Organizes International Virtual Event and Leads Continuous Flow Chemistry Postgraduate Course

    Members of the LUMEN-Lab led an intensive week dedicated to continuous flow chemistry, organizing a major international scientific event and delivering specialized postgraduate training in Argentina and across the region.

    The activities focused on the development and application of continuous flow chemistry in research and industrial processes. Representing LUMEN-Lab, researchers Gabriela Oksdath-Mansilla, Fabricio Bisogno, Adrián Heredia, Lydia Bouchet, Silvia Soria-Castro, and Jorge Uranga designed and dictated the advanced postgraduate course, actively promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing within the scientific community.

    Driving Global Connections: Virtual Symposium FlowChem.Ar

    As a core part of the program, the team successfully organized and hosted the second edition of FlowChem.Ar, a prominent virtual symposium that brought together international experts in continuous flow chemistry.

    The event featured a high-level lineup of speakers from leading global pharmaceutical companies, including:

    • Johnson & Johnson
    • Eli Lilly and Company
    • MSD
    • Novartis

    The initiative highlighted the growing impact of continuous flow technologies in Latin America and underscored LUMEN-Lab’s leadership in strengthening connections between academia and industry through the exchange of expertise and recent advances in the field.

    LUMEN-Lab member Gabriela Oksdath-Mansilla delivered a series of seminars at the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of the Republic (UDELAR), showcasing our research group’s work in combining #Light, #ContinuousFlowChemistry, and #Enzymes. Furthermore, she participated in teaching the doctoral course “New Methodologies in Organic Synthesis and Their Applications,” sharing her expertise in the fields of Continuous Flow Chemistry and Organic Photochemistry.

    This was a valuable experience and an excellent opportunity to strengthen collaborative ties with members of the UDELAR community and the Institut Pasteur of Montevideo.

    The LUMEN – Lab TEAM in The Science Week 2024!

    The LU.M.EN – Lab team participated with great enthusiasm in the 2024 Science Week organized by FCQ-UNC, an event dedicated to science communication, innovation, and the exchange of knowledge among researchers, students, and the community.

    During the event, the team presented various projects and experiences related to technological research and interdisciplinary development, creating a collaborative learning environment and bringing science closer to new audiences. In addition, attendees had the opportunity to learn more about the laboratory’s areas of work and take part in interactive activities.

    Participation in Science Week 2024 reaffirms LU.M.EN – Lab’s commitment to education, innovation, and the promotion of science as a driving force for social and technological transformation.

  • “Light and Chemistry”: Interactive Science to Discover Photochemical Phenomena

    “Light and Chemistry”: Interactive Science to Discover Photochemical Phenomena

    LU.M.EN-Lab has developed “Light and Chemistry,” an engaging and experimental initiative designed to bring science closer to the community through interactive experiences.

    Led by researcher Daniel Caminos, the activity invites participants to explore various photochemical phenomena, such as light absorption, fluorescence, phosphorescence, chemiluminescence, and photoinduced reactions. Through explanatory panels and a 50 x 40 cm dark box equipped with LED lighting (RGB + 390 nm UV) and solutions of photoactive compounds, attendees can directly observe and experiment with different types of light and their effects.

    The project was developed for the Interactive Science Museum (MCI) of the Faculty of Chemical Sciences (FCQ) and has been featured at various science outreach events, including the “Week of Light” (Plaza Cielo y Tierra, 2022), as well as Winter Break activities at the FCQ from 2022 to the present. It also takes part in the “Night of the Museums” as part of the initiatives organized by the MCI-FCQ.

    With a participatory approach, “Light and Chemistry” establishes itself as a key tool for promoting interest in science and fostering learning through experimentation.
